Executive in charge of Violent Criminal Enterprises Bureau, Crime Strategies Unit, and Body Worn Camera Unit. Oversees all aspects of bureau responsible for long-term violent street gang investigation and prosecutions. Works with NYPD and federal partners on developing investigations to seize guns and best allocate resources to prosecute the many criminal street gangs causing most of the violence in Brooklyn. Oversee units utilizing the efforts of designated teams of prosecutors, NYPD investigators, district attorney investigators, analysts, paralegals and clerical staff.


UNITED STATES ATTORNEY’S OFFICE, EASTERN DISTRICT OF NEW YORK

Assistant U.S. Attorney, Criminal Division

2008 – 2019

Oversaw complex criminal investigations and prosecutions. Prosecuted violations of federal criminal law on behalf of the United States Government. Investigated allegations of criminal conduct. Drafted and applied for search warrants and arrest warrants, presented evidence to federal grand juries, prepared and filed indictments, engaged in pretrial discovery, and litigated pretrial matters by motion and pretrial hearings. Conducted jury trials and sentencing hearings. Met and coordinated with the Department of Justice regarding long-term international criminal prosecutions, international fugitives, and death penalty protocols. Debriefed the Attorney General on the status of MS-13 prosecution nation-wide and in New York. Drafted appellate briefs and argued appeals before the Second Circuit Court of Appeals.


SUFFOLK COUNTY DISTRICT ATTORNEY’S OFFICE

2002 – 2008

Assumed prosecution and investigation of state felony prosecutions including political corruption, organized crime, street gangs, homicides, violent street crimes, domestic violence, child abuse, and child pornography. Prosecutions included long-term investigations overseeing efforts of a designated team of detectives, utilizing wiretaps, search warrants, grand jury investigations, and trials.

1999-2002

Managed over 75 cases for the litigation department of the firm; have primary responsibility for all aspects of discovery and trial including depositions, suit evaluations, meeting with clients and expert witnesses, legal research, motion drafting, preparing cases for trial, jury selection, and trying cases before juries in Bronx, Queens, Nassau and Suffolk Counties.

Prosecuted misdemeanors followed by felony grand jury case evaluation and presentment. Participated in all aspects of state felony prosecutions including homicides, kidnappings, arsons, violent sexual assaults, and murder. Worked as District Court Trial Supervisor and supervised over 30 entry level ADAs.

Federal Law Enforcement Association Prosecutor of the Year for the successful prosecution of over twenty MS-13 members in United States v. Alvarenga, et al., November 2016.

FBI Long Island Gang Task Force “Meritorious Service Award” for successful prosecution and support of the FBI’s mission to combat, disrupt and dismantle the MS-13, March 2015.

Federal Law Enforcement Association Prosecutor of the Year for successful trial prosecution of several MS-13 members in United States v. Geovany Prado, et al., November 2014.

Federal Agent’s “True American Hero Award” for successful trial prosecution of Colombian Norte Valle Boss in United States v. Carlos Arturo Patiño Restrepo, March 2011.

Southampton Town Police Department’s “Full Court Press Prosecution Award” for successful prosecution in United States v. Manning, Coffey, Johnson, Hopson and Gilliam, September 2010.

Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office Distinguished Trial Advocacy Award for successful trial prosecution in People v. Austin Offen and Constantine Chronis, July 1999.
